Watery Grave — ÍVAR / ᛁᚢᚾᚱ

Artist's note

Watery Grave is a memorial to those who went to sea and never returned, and to the families who were left waiting for them. It uses Rán, the Norse figure associated with the sea and those lost to it, as a poetic frame, but the song is fundamentally about grief, memory and ordinary human life — the empty chair, the coat by the door, the jokes and habits we remember. It asks us to remember people for the lives they lived, not simply for the way the sea took them.
